TIP #1: Work out what industry topics suit you. For example, someone interested in websites, internet, blogging etc, should search for large websites which allow for users to sign up, create a profile and build that profile. You can also setup profiles on most of the popular news websites.

TIP #2: Keep your profiles active. If you don’t see much results it is because Google or other search engines view these as low quality links. The real value to search engines comes in when they see regular updates or interaction. If you are determined, then you can push down most unwanted links to page 2 minimally.

1. If you have a self-hosted blog or website with you or your company name, setup an image sitemap. This will give the search engines plenty more to use, and of course, the images will all be under your control.

2. To adjust photos of you on Google Image results, realise that the search engine giant has facial recognition software. Use clear facial photos of yourself when you post on social websites, author signatures or other online publishing websites.

3. If you don’t have much of an online presence, then get started.

4. Use Alt tags, search friendly image names such as your-keyword.jpg

The above four steps should get you well on your way to making the adjustments you want with online reputation management for images.

    This really needs an update.
    – Since the redesign, Digg isn’t much use for reputation protection.
    – Propeller, Magnolia, Jaiku and Simpy no longer exist. I’m sure there are other corpses on the list.
    – There are some obvious newer tools like BrandYourself.com, Pinterest, Instagram, XeeMe, etc.

    Would be nice to see a 2013 version of this.

    Thank you so much for this list! Most companies would charge for this kind of information. Next would be some sort of automated process to set them all up at once.

    • Hi Seth, glad you liked it. On the automated process, unfortunately the the “quick method” is not always the best method. If you want to rank well on your profiles you need an original communication, content and interaction. It requires a little patience to just site down for a couple of hours and just do it.

If i will create account in news sites then how i can update my profiles there? Means what kind of news i can post there or can i update already published news.?

      For best results the profiles should be updated manually. The true strength of these profiles will be from them being used and visibly showing interaction. There are tools to update social networks which can be used such as hootsuite and buffer.
